WordPress Add Read More to Excerpt

Have a theme in WordPress that doesn’t have ‘read more’ or anything but the […] at the end of the post?

It’s super easy to add some text to that section via your FUNCTIONS.php.

Read More edit functions in WordPressFUNCTIONS

First off, be careful what you are doing in here. I recommend taking a copy of your functions.php file and then editing the live copy. That way, you have a backup.

Simply add the code below into the functions.php file and upload it. Voila!

function new_excerpt_more($more) {
global $post;
return ‘…&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=”‘. get_permalink($post->ID) . ‘”>’ . ‘Read the Rest>>’ . ‘</a>';
add_filter(‘excerpt_more’, ‘new_excerpt_more’);
